Doctor Who: 10 Predictions For Series 9's Mystery Writer
5. Paul Cornell
Considering he started out writing Casualty, he was the perfect fit for Russell T Davies' more soap-opera style. However, his episodes were morbid enough to qualify him getting an episode under the Moffat regime. Plus, they had the added detail of making scarecrows and red-eyed space dragons look imposing. Plus, he was quickly booted out in 2003 before the new series began when he wrote Scream of the Shalka. While it was admittedly better than the toddler finger-painting project that was Dreamland, it was still weighed down under the limitations of Flash animation. If anyone is owed an episode which has the brilliant visual style of the Moffat era, its Cornell.
