Matt Smith rekindled the nations interest in natty neckwear but David Tennant made a bolder fashion statement in his debut story The Christmas Invasion, setting off his new image with a pair of spectacles. Though the tenth Time Lord would only use glasses infrequently, it sent out a positive message amongst the tinsel and turkey. Kids must have been quietly punching the air knowing the Doctor was proudly displaying outsider credentials by casually doubling his amount of eyes. This inspired addition to the wardrobe, following as it did Tennants epic sword fight with a Sycorax, was a shrewd move in cementing Doctor Whos place with chic young geeks.
