Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Matt Smith's Departure Is A Major Mistake

4. His Dynamic With Clara

doctor who clara The Eleventh Doctor has had great chemistry with all is companions. He and Amy begun their story together and a grudging acceptance and respect developed between him and Rory. Currently the new €˜gang€™ Strax, Vastra and Jenny (Spin-off please!) play very well alongside the Doctor and I€™ve already spent a good deal of time on River Song. Clara has been no exception. I mentioned above that I found series 7 a bit directionless. Perhaps it was the lack of the heavy arc from series 5 and 6, or maybe it was the long split between the two halves. For me, what did work across the series was his relationship with Clara. It began with the witty banter in Asylum Of The Daleks and that continued apace in the excellent The Snowmen. There was a spark between these two characters that swept through series 7B, even when some of the episodes were missing that oomph of earlier stories. If anything, the banter portrayed on screen was better than Amy and the Doctor. There€™s the wide-eyed eagerness to investigate the mystery of the phantom in Hide and the shared emotions over the loss they have borne in The Rings of Akhaten. Watching them explore the universe together, I knew there was something special even beyond the €˜impossible girl€™ mystery that was resolved to satisfaction at the end of the series. The trouble is, I still don€™t know what the relationship will be between the Doctor and Clara now that he knows who and what she is. She has witnessed every moment in his life. How do they go on from that? That was one of the most interesting stories I was looking forward to next. But all we€™re going to get are two specials and then he€™s gone. That being said, as a linking companion between two doctors, you couldn€™t have asked for a finer character.
