10. He's An Established Actor

Peter Capaldi Kafka Many actors who step into the TARDIS are not commonly known prior to arriving on the show. Many of them played supporting roles in films and theatre that they were in before becoming The Doctor. Peter Davison and Jon Pertwee are major exceptions to this, but generally, a new face for Doctor has everyone asking, "Who?" Capaldi, however, is well known not just in the Whoniverse, but also across the world in various other films and television shows. Yes, he was in The Fires of Pompeii and Torchwood: Children of Earth, but did you know he was also an accomplished writer and director? He won an Academy Award in 1995 for his short film, Franz Kafka's It's A Wonderful Life, and he won a BAFTA in 2010 for his role as Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It. He's also been in the movies Local Hero, Dangerous Liaisons, and World War Z, to name a few. Yes, his name may still be unfamiliar to many, but his CV is quite extensive, which leads into the next point.
