Prior to Matt Smiths tenure as the Doctor, the word "cool" generally wasn't associated with Doctor Who. After all, the Doctor didn't exactly fit the bill of the suave, sophisticated, womanizing hero that other British icons, such as James Bond, did. Once Matt took over, however, everything became about the Doctor being "cool". Although some fans may complain that this was Moffat's overly-simplistic way of popularising the show for the Tumblr generation, it was actually part of Eleven's characterisation. A major theme for Eleven was the idea of an old man in a young man's body. Matt was a master at using body language, such as wringing his hands, while he talked to convey the Doctor's age. At the same time, the Doctor wanted to feel young and cool again (don't we all?) and so he insisted on making everything from bow ties to Fezzes socially acceptable. While this is an interesting way of looking at it, the fact is that even without the headgear, the Doctor is still pretty cool. He gets to travel anywhere he wants to in time and space, he's romanced queens, and he's saved the world a bunch of times. In 2,000 odd years of existing, it's only natural for the Doctor to have learned a few cool tricks along the way. Here are 10 reasons why, try as you might, the Doctor will always be cooler than you.
