Doctor Who: 10 Revived Series Episodes You'll Only Watch Once

7. Boom Town

The TARDIS team took a holiday back in Series 1 (because that's not what they're doing all of the time) and ended up, of all places, in Cardiff which is conveniently where the series has been filmed since its 21st century reinvention. As to be expected, though, their short-lived vacation was interrupted by an extraterrestrial excursion in the form of Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen who apparently hadn't caused enough trouble during her last appearance earlier in the series. This time it was even worse for our time travelling heroes because, since their last encounter, she had somehow managed to become the Mayor of Cardiff and was planning to build a nuclear power plant which would've subsequently blown up the entire Earth. Fear not, though, because as always the Doctor was on hand to stop her latest attempt at world conquest (and just in the nick of time, too, by the looks of things) and then he did what every sane person does with the person they're about to take home to their execution by taking Blon Fel-Fotch out to dinner. And that's... well, that's basically it, really. It's certainly interesting to see the Doctor under such pressure (that is, being forced to look his enemy in the eye) but, generally speaking, Boom Town is a one hit wonder which is really only there to set things up for the finale. There's a subplot in which Mickey finally grows a pair and tells Rose what he really thinks of their new arrangement but apart from that, there really isn't that much to write home about. You'll be intrigued the first time you see it but you won't be scrabbling to watch it again any time soon. Why would you when you could just watch the Series 1 finale two-parter instead? It's much better and you actually get to see the adversary carry out their master plan, too. It's so boring when they're thwarted before they've even started.
