Doctor Who: 10 Roles That Prove The Perfect Casting Of Peter Capaldi

7. Malcolm Tucker - The Thick of It

Peter Capaldi, Chris Addison "We are through the looking glass now, folks." "I'm likely to use an awful lot of what we would call violent sexual imagery." "F Star Star Star." Those are the most tame quotes I could find for this character. There are many compilation videos about "The Best of Malcolm Tucker" and all of them are homages to the f-bomb. I won't be including a video clip with this because I couldn't find anything that was actually safe for work (I also link a few of my church friends to my articles and wouldn't want to traumatise them for life). Malcolm Tucker is a spin doctor. What he actually reminds me of is who would emerge if Josh Lyman and Toby Ziegler from The West Wing had a baby and raised him on South Park vocabulary. There is no doubt that the man in this show is a brilliant mind, but I once found a clip where he went without swearing for about half a minute and thought I had tracked down the wrong show. This is especially alarming given the fact that he is the "Director of Communications." I've been to Britain and none of the communications had that many four-letter words. The Guardian describes Peter's character thus: "Malcolm Tucker has the physical demeanour and the political instincts of a velociraptor." And we thought The Oncoming Storm was bad!

That's Kaki pronounced like the pants, thank you very much, my family nickname and writing name. I am a Red Sox-loving, Doctor Who-quoting, Shaara-reading walking string quartet of a Mormon writer from Boston. I currently work 40 hours at a stressful desk job with a salary that lets me pick up and travel to places like Ireland or Philadelphia. I have no husband or kids, but I have five nephews to keep me entertained. When not writing, working or eating too much Indian food, I'm always looking for something new to learn, whether it's French or family history.
