Doctor Who: 10 Secrets Of The TARDIS You Need To Know
9. It Was Named By The Doctor's Granddaughter
At a glance, the word TARDIS appears to fit too perfectly into the acronym "Time-And-Relative-Dimension-In-Space" for it to be anything other than intentional design. What's surprising is it was actually the name that preceded the acronym, and the two fitting together so well was down to none other than The Doctor's own granddaughter, Susan Foreman.
Though the origins of this claim are somewhat dubious - given that the details seem to change every time - it is largely understood from the novels and other media that the term TARDIS actually existed before the acronym was coined by Susan as a young Time Lady on Gallifrey, and proved to be so popular that it spread like wildfire through the ranks of the Time Lords.
Although the truth of this claim is often speculated, if there is any truth to it then it is undeniable that the impact The Doctor and his progeny have had on the history of the famous machine.
