Now, this moment is quite saddening in every sense of the word. This was the episode in which the Ninth Doctor regenerated in spectacular style to introduce the concept to the show's legion of new fans. What's more, it was the conclusion of the first and only series with Christopher Eccleston. The lack of his Doctor is well and thoroughly discussed between fans of the show and many would love to him come back. The Doctor had managed to save Rose Tyler's life but at the cost of his own. Many of its fans would have been unaware of regeneration up until this point so seeing a Doctor vanish from sight and transform into another can be quite the shock the first time round (though you never really learn to accept it).
