As well as opening the door for a return in the main show, bi-generation provided the perfect set up for a Fourteenth Doctor spinoff.

Prior to Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary specials, fans were expecting a short but sweet reunion for the Doctor and Donna, with the pair eventually parting ways again. But now we know that their adventures continue. So why not show that onscreen?

Given how popular Tennant and Tate are, and how much they enjoy working together, a Doctor/Donna spinoff would be a no-brainer.

And it wouldn’t just be more of the same either. Doctor Who would still be your typical time and space adventuring, while the Fourteen spinoff could be strictly Earth-based, like Torchwood was. This would differentiate it from the main show, while also making the spinoff cheaper and easier to film.

And look, no disrespect to The War Between the Land and the Sea (still an absolute mouthful by the way), but this is a spinoff that would get people buzzing, and it would be a guaranteed ratings hit to boot. Why not take the easy and obvious win that's literally sitting in your back yard?

You don't see Star Wars doing a bloody Tusken Raiders spinoff – you see them bringing back Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi! You see Star Trek bringing back Patrick Stewart as Picard! Why is the Whoniverse not utilising its big guns too?
