Doctor Who: 10 Things Fans Want From Series 9 (But Won't Get)

7. An Established Tone

The later broadcast time for series 8 had many assuming that it would be a much darker, more grown-up version of the show, with the playful Matt Smith replaced by the more serious Peter Capaldi.

However, that wasn't entirely true. There were certainly elements of the show that went extremely dark, but there were lighter moments as well, and moments of silliness and humour that perhaps weren't so expected (although Capaldi's long since proved his comedic chops).

The series needs to have injections of humour and lightness, while it should also be scary and dramatic, but too often last year - like with the episode Robot of Sherwood - it felt a bit out-of-place, and that the tone tended to flip-flop between episodes. Having a more established and consistent tone, one that can include all of those things mentioned, but in a way that feels natural, would be a great way to make the series as a whole feel like a coherent bit of television.
