Doctor Who: 10 Things Russell T. Davies NEEDS To Do

8. Companions With Charisma

Donna Noble Doctor Who
BBC Studios

Yes, we'd all love to see Donna Noble return to Doctor Who, but this entry isn't solely focused on that. Although, if there's a chance of it...

With respect to Amy, Rory, Clara, Bill, Nardole, Yaz, Ryan and Graham, the companions of Davies' era on Doctor Who simply stood out more. Rose was the heart that the Doctor truly needed in the first and second seasons, while Martha was a good foil for him in the fourth. Donna was the perfect companion for this embittered version of the Doctor, holding him to task on more than one occasion.

The companions of recent years, while brilliantly acted across the board, have not been as noticeable in standing out. Graham and Ryan, having now left the show, leave behind Yaz - the most interesting of the current set by far. It remains to be seen whether she will survive the changing of the guard, alongside John Bishop as well.

Half the fun of the Tardis team is the interactions between the Doctor and their companions, so someone with true charisma needs to take their place in the control room, or face being left in the cold.
