Doctor Who: 10 Things Russell T. Davies NEEDS To Do
6. Extended Universe Tie-Ins
Davies said in an interview that he wished to see something of a Marvel Cinematic Universe around Doctor Who. There are already spin-offs like Torchwood, the Sarah-Jane Adventures, Class, and even a short-lived K9 and Company show. Added to these are the expansive, and wonderful, Big Finish audio dramas.
While Elizabeth Sladen sadly passed away several years ago, there are still stories to be explored there. What happened to Luke? Is Mr. Smith just gathering dust in Bannerman Road? Then, what has become of Gwen Cooper over in Wales? Is Torchwood dead and buried?
For the Big Finish dramas, Doctor's Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, and Paul McGann are still actively working. With the 60th anniversary fast approaching and abandoning all sense of logistics for the moment, what a treat it would be to see them all included in some form or another. McGann's Doctor has had by far the least amount of screentime, but he has managed to make an impact with it nonetheless.
There is a huge universe of material out there to mine for content, so Davies need not necessarily look much further than these for ideas.
