Doctor Who: 10 Things That Must Happen In Series 10
4. Some Timely, Thematically-Strong Sci-Fi
Doctor Who's particular brand of sci-fi has always been pretty fantastical and whimsical, which means it doesn't usually go for the sort of hard sci-fi notion of commenting on the current world through a fictional lens.
One of the strongest stories in recent years, however, did just that. 2015's The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion told an interesting play on the classic alien incursion story that riffed on current political situations. e.g. IS, the Israeli-Palastinian conflict. Through that, it managed to tell a universal story about the difficulties - yet importance of - maintaining peace.
Seeing as that went so well, it would be terrific if that success could be repeated with at least one more socially-intelligent story this time around. Since 2015, the world has got a whole lot more complicated in the political sense, so the new series should have a lot of inspirations to mine from.
