Doctor Who: 10 Things That Must Not Happen In Series 9
5. The Death of Missy
Back in the Anthony Ainley days, one went into a story involving the Master knowing two things. 1. His plan wasn't going to make any sort of sense if you stopped to think about it. 2. He was going to die at the end in some terribly 'final' way, only to be brought back with little or no explanation the next time they felt like using the character. Now, there is a debate to be had as to exactly how much sense Missy's Cyber-Zomb-Army thing really made (or if it was even supposed to, given the character), but it's undeniable that they apparently disintegrated her in front of our eyes roughly thirty two seconds before they announced that she'd be back in the Series 9 opening two-parter. Worryingly, Steven Moffat was recently asked about the Unexplained Ainley Resurrection Paradigm (UARP) and went on record to say that he always found it to be hugely enjoyable as a viewer. To be clear - it isn't. What it is is incredibly lazy plotting to put the character safely back on the shelf until he (or she) is needed again, and if the first words out of Missy's mouth this year are, 'Nonsense my Dear Rani, the whole universe knows that I'm indestructible', that will not be OK.
