4. Finding Gallifrey
In the run up to the screening of The Day of the Doctor, much was said by Mr Moffat about the role of the 50th anniversary story being to drastically change the essential setup of the show and give it a new direction to build toward the 100th anniversary special (pre-order your fiction-mist copy now). With the revelation that Gallifrey was still out there somewhere and the final dream sequence monologue, the production crew definitively stated that this was the new direction he had been talking about. Henceforth, the Doctor would be having adventures of all sorts while trying to find his way back to Gallifrey. That said, if he finds the thing two years later it's going to leave a hell of a lot of lag time waiting for 100th anniversary to roll around. As quest formats go, the search for Gallifrey is a perfectly serviceable vehicle to set up all sorts of other adventures. There's no need to skip immediately to the end and find the thing right away. On the other hand...
