Doctor Who: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Autons

8. The Autons' Mysterious Homeworld

Despite having appeared in Doctor Who since 1970, the home planet of the Nestenes has yet to be depicted on-screen or officially confirmed in canon. Said to have been destroyed in the Time War in recent adventures, this homeworld is a mystery to Whovians.

Given the name of 'Polymos' in the novelisation of 1971's Terror of the Autons, little is known about this world other than it wasn't too far from Earth - at the edge of our galaxy.

Despite appearing in two serials during the classic series and three stories in the revival, the Nestene Homeworld is yet to be explored. In the 2005 episode Rose, the Nestene Consciousness claimed its home planet had been ravaged by the Time War. However, whether its invasions in the 70s were in response to the Time War or if its attempt in 2005 was just the first in a new Nestene bid for a home planet is unclear.

Hopefully we'll get the chance to see the Autons' home planet on screen at some point in the future - perhaps even a flashback to the battle which seemingly destroyed it.
