Doctor Who: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Christmas Special

2. The Potential Exit

The title itself indicates that Clara will be departing the TARDIS for good, something which the Moff is all to happy to let fans believe. Peter Capaldi is signed up for Series 9; Jenna Coleman isn€™t. Rumours have been amounting since as early as August that the Christmas Special will see Coleman bow out of her 18-month long role, though the actress herself has remained coy, saying:
€œWe€™ve sat down with Steven Moffat and we€™ve all decided we don€™t want anybody to know which way it€™s going. If you know I€™m in the next series, or if you know I€™m off, you€™ll know how the story ends.€
Peter Capaldi meanwhile has stated that he is not looking for a new assistant, indicating that either Clara is staying put, or that we€™ve already met the new assistant. Recent characters Journey Blue (played by Zawe Ashton) and Perkins (Frank Skinner) are firm favourites to take over the role if and when a new companion is needed. Steven Moffat, of course, is renowned for creating powerfully emotional Christmas Specials. In the past viewers have seen and old miser learn the error of his ways, a war-torn family pulled apart, the death of Clara Oswald and the regeneration of the Eleventh Doctor. All of this indicates that another emotional journey awaits viewers.
