Doctor Who: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Christmas Special

10. The Name

The name alone - Last Christmas - has conjured up many frightful expectations amongst fans already, with many questioning quite whose last Christmas this will be. Is it Clara€™s? Is it the Doctor€™s? Clara has already departed the TARDIS countless times so any exit she potentially has here will likely feel lacklustre; we can€™t believe Steven Moffat anymore. Either way the title has many pondering. Peter Capaldi has already been confirmed to have signed up for a ninth series, but Jenna Coleman has remained coy. As has Steven Moffat. But despite the ominous title indicating that Clara is indeed leaving, would Steven Moffat really be that blunt? He€™s renown for wanting to keep secrets from the fans so perhaps the title refers to something different entirely. Coleman said of the matter:
€œI don't think there's really a way back for her now that she's had a taste of this life and him. I don't really think she could go back to just having a normal life again."
Intriguing€ Could Last Christmas in fact refer to the Wham! classic? Reading the lyrics, it sounds like an apt description of Clara and the Doctor. €œI€™m hiding from you and your soul of ice€ could indicate Clara is hiding from the darker Doctor, whereas €œYou€™ll never fool me again€ could describe the Doctor€™s stance after Clara destroyed the TARDIS€™ keys in her dream state. Moffat is either being literal or metaphorical. Or neither.
