Doctor Who: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Michelle Gomez

Ready, steady, Gomez!

She rose to prominence as bored, sexually frustrated but weirdly relatable staff liaison officer in Channel 4's groundbreaking comedy Green Wing and now, with her sinister ice-blue eyes, she's frightening the bones out of Doctor Who aficionado's across the globe. After a unique and somewhat varied career on stage and screen, the Scottish actress landed her biggest role to date when she signed up to portray the first ever female incarnation of the Doctor's havoc-wreaking nemesis, The Master, appropriately retitled Missy. Please, try to keep up. Short for "Mistress"... Well, she couldn't very well keep calling herself "the Master" now, could she? Although synonymous for her award winning role as sociopath Sue White in Green Wing, she's a seasoned comedy actor with a penchant for playing fundamentally unhinged characters including Pickwell in Bad Education and Mary Queen of Scots, who just happens to be a meth addict, in Psychobitches. She's also an accomplished navigator of the West End stage having previously worked with The Royal Shakespeare Company. But, aside from her acting credits, there really isn't much out there on the enigmatic Ayr-born actress whose blood-curling glare could shred a man's heart at 50 paces. Let's endeavour to find out.
