So it must be music to the ears of Whovians across the globe to learn that Gomez was, indeed, a Doctor Who devotee during her childhood and counts the late Roger Delgado - the very first actor to portray the Master - as her favourite version of Gallifrey's resident nutcase. Thus, it is rather poignant that Gomez has now assumed the mantle as the Master, becoming the first woman to play the role and carry on the legacy of an iconic character who was brought to life by an iconic actor.
