Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About Series 2 Of NuWho

3. Billie Was Originally Going To Leave In Episode 7

She was leaving, she wasn't leaving... Nobody quite knew for sure what the hell was going as far as Billie Piper's future aboard the TARDIS beyond Series 2 was concerned but she managed to well and truly dupe us all when she confirmed that she'd be sticking around for Series 3, too. And people wonder why Doctor Who fans have got trust issues? As it turns out, of course (and not that you'll need painfully reminding), she ended up leaving at the end of Series 2 when her character let go of that bloody lever (God DAMN it, Rose!) and became imprisoned in a parallel universe forevermore... *ahem*. There wasn't a dry eye in the house as our heroes bid their final farewell on that freezing cold beach in South Wales (more on that next) but it has since transpired that fans were originally going to be waving ta-ta to Rose Tyler much, much sooner. Billie had initially only signed up to appear in half of Series 2 (perhaps it isn't just a coincidence that she got her face sucked off in The Idiot's Lantern after all...) owing to the fact that the series was going through a behind the scenes overall with the inception of a new Doctor and nobody really knew how well it would be received. Very well, as it turns out, and as David Tennant bounded aboard the TARDIS, Billie decided that she wasn't quite done with the show yet. It's just as well, really, because their sizzling on screen chemistry helped to catapult the show into new levels of success and when the time came for her to leave for good, nearly 9 million viewers tuned in to send off their beloved shop girl turned Earth defender in style. The end wasn't really the end at all, though, which brings us to...
