Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About Series 2 Of NuWho
2. Doomsday Wasn't Really The End
The nation wept (and wept... and wept...) at the end of Series 2 when the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler were separated forevermore but the now iconic beach scene was just another day in the office for the stars of our show. It was still traumatising for them, of course, and you don't have to be Sherlock (though how cool would it be if you were?!) to tell that their hearts were literally breaking as their character's looked into each other's eyes for what actually wasn't the last time. In real life (oh, that's the thing that goes on for everybody else while the rest of us are Googling Doctor Who trivia), though, Doomsday was shot halfway through production on Series 2 which meant that David and Billie had to act out their last goodbye and then say 'hello' again the next day when filming on the climactic two-parter continued. That's the world of TV for you, folks. Nothing is ever quite in the right order... But how bloody good are they in that scene?! They're brilliant anyway but it's widely assumed that it was the last scene they filmed (i.e., on Billie's last day) which would've probably meant that no acting would have been required. As it turns out, though, Billie's TARDIS days were far from over after she travelled across the waters to Bad Wolf Bay (it was actually down the road from the Doctor Who studios in Cardiff - spoilers!) because she was still filming the Cyberman two-parter, too. So just what was the last scene they filmed, you ask? Well, funnily enough...
