Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About Series 3 Of NuWho

2. Off With His Head!

Well, if the Doctor was present at the writing of the United States Declaration of Independence, it's not hard to believe that he's got up, close and personal - *ahem* - with royalty throughout his ongoing escapades, too. The trouble with being a time traveller, of course, is that things rarely happen to you in the right order. As such, the Doctor was just as confused as the rest of us when Queen Elisabeth I turned up at the end of The Shakespeare Code and promptly ordered his execution. Say whaaa?! As it turns out, though, the Time Lord had previously ('previously' as far as the Queen was concerned - it hadn't happened for the Doctor yet!) promised his life to her during the events of the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor (in which the Virgin - once again, *ahem* - Queen was played by Joanna Page), but had left her feeling high and dry after their impromptu wedding ceremony (which, in true Doctor Who style, had been attended by two of his previous and future incarnations) and a rather close encounter with the Zygons. In his defence, though, he didn't mean to propose to her, but you can understand why she was particularly ticked off to see him again, can't you? Oh, Doctor. Why does River let you out?
