Doctor Who: 10 Throwaway Lines That Would've Made Great Episodes

10. Chairman Of The Governors

The Day of the Doctor seems to place Clara Oswald in the present day where she works at Coal Hill School. Then it shows us the outside, where Ian Chesterton, one of the first companions who was introduced as a teacher there, is still there after 48 years. Which is not so much a nice shout out to him as a damnation as his end is that he spent 48 years stuck in the same hellish job. However, there is just enough potential for a story here considering that Coal Hill School was the base for a Dalek invasion in Remembrance of the Daleks, set in 1963. The Doctor could materialise in 1965, just when Ian and Barbara were dropped off two years late by a Dalek time machine, and honour his friends by dropping them back in their own time, properly like he tried and failed to do for years due to his faulty TARDIS. He drops them back at the end of the events of Remembrance and shows them the state of the school and tells them that the headmaster€™s dead due to a Dalek plot. He would then make sure Ian got the job, acting as the Doctor€™s personal guard to make sure that no other alien threat could come near the school. It would be a great minisode to honour the first companions and give them a purpose to spending their entire lives in a desk job.
