Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Gave Zero F*cks About His Companions

9. Humiliating Craig Owens

While Craig Owens didn't travel with the Doctor on a regular basis, he still counts as a companion in the "one-off" sense, working with the Doctor in two different episodes.

On the first of these occasions - Series 5's The Lodger - the Doctor ends up living with Craig while trying to figure out why his TARDIS is malfunctioning, and even though the two of them get along at first, the Doctor ends up being a bit of a dick towards Craig as the episode progresses, which results in Craig angrily telling him to move out.

The biggest example of this dickishness is at a football match, where the Doctor straight-up embarrasses Craig in front of his team, his friends, and the other strangers watching the game. Not only does the Doctor refuse to pass Craig the ball on multiple occasions, but there's a moment where he literally runs in front of the ball right as Craig is about to kick it, stealing a penalty from him.

To make things worse, the Doctor then embarrasses Craig in front of his boss, and later, he interrupts a romantic date between Craig and his potential girlfriend, Sophie.

While this behaviour can be chalked up to the fact that the Doctor is an alien (and also, the episode is mostly played for laughs) Craig is shown to be visibly hurt more than once. It's not as bad as some of the other examples on this list, but no matter which way you look at it, the Doctor is just being a massive douche. Poor James Corden.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
