Doctor Who: 10 Unresolved Storylines & Mysteries That Need To Be Explored

7. The Brooke Legacy

Doctor Who The Doctor's Daughter Jenny
BBC

As previously mentioned in the abandoned subplots article and on our WhoCulture vid, it would be amazing to see some aspects of Adelaide Brooke's descendants forging the way to the Dragon Star, the Celestial Belt of the Winter Queen and the Map of the Water Snake Wormholes. And with a Brooke marrying a Tandonian prince to create a whole new species, it's entering expanded universe territory. But what would be more fascinating is seeing the Doctor bumping into Adelaide's granddaughter, Susie Fontana Brooke.

Poignant? Yes. Awkward? Most definitely.

We know the story of how Susie is inspired by her grandmother, who took her own life on Earth on 21 November 2059 in order to correct the course of human history that the Time Lord Victorious almost royally buggered with - those Tandonian princes don't come by that often, you know. There are many fascinating fallouts as to whether the Doctor would reveal the troubling truth to Susie, or if it's yet another secret they'll take to the grave.

They say some things are best left unsaid, so perhaps it's one of those occasions where the Doctor takes a leaf out of the ancient Time Lord book and doesn't interfere this time round. But for pure entertainment value: Mia Bennett (the geologist on Bowie Base One) spills the beans on what really happened on that fateful night to Susie, who hops on her lightspeed ship and hunts down the Doctor in some major story arc because she wants answers dammit! And also some good old-fashioned closure.

The name's Colbourn, James - yeah, doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
