Doctor Who: 10 Villains Who Should Return For Russell T Davies' New Series

9. The Bane

The Sarah Jane Adventures had lots of memorable baddies that, owing to the show's smaller reach, many Who fans haven't spent time with - and the Bane is one of them.

Introduced in the very first episode of this RTD-created spinoff, the Bane attempted to conquer the Earth by getting people to buy a drink called Bubble Shock, which would allow the Bane Mother to control people's minds. It was a very silly plot, but they proved popular enough to warrant a return in Series 2, where they were once again thwarted by Sarah Jane and the gang.

The fact that the Bane were brought back in The Sarah Jane Adventures could indicate that the makers of the show - including RTD himself - had a soft spot for them, so a Doctor Who return isn't completely out of the question.

With their writing tentacles and immense strength, the Bane children are actually quite intimidating. Plus, this would also be a great opportunity to bring back some of the Sarah Jane Adventures crew - especially Luke, who was actually created by the Bane in the first place. Do it Russell!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
