Doctor Who: 10 Wise Things We Learnt From Tom Baker's Doctor

2. There's No Point Being Grown Up if You Can't be Childish Sometimes

There's a reason so many children fell in love with the Fourth Doctor. He may wander in eternity and see the bigger picture but this Doctor knew the merit of feeding his inner child. From the moment he sulkily told Sarah Jane that: "there's no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes," he became very easy to love. He was true to his word. From eating sweets, messing around with gadgets or having a day off when he felt like it, this was a Doctor who had fun. Just because you were facing imminent Armageddon didn't mean you couldn't have a laugh while you were doing it. In the end, it's all relative, isn't it? Who's to say playing with your yoyo isn't as important as stopping the Dalek fleet? This Doctor knew that there was a time to be serious and a time to be funny but also that often you could be both at the same time. Why enter a room in the same way every time? Why not banter with your potential executioner? You may as well enjoy it while you can, after all.
