Doctor Who: 10 Wise Things We Learnt From Tom Baker's Doctor

1. When Tegan Arrives, Regenerate

The Fourth Doctor had a good run, racking up more episodes than any other incarnation and had survived evils of all kind with a smile and an offer of a jelly baby. However, not even the mighty Fourth Doctor could cope with the horrors of three young whippersnappers haring around the TARDIS. Whereas once he travelled with the likes of Sarah Jane, Leela, K9 and Romana, he must have wondered how he ended up with Adric, a lad who seemed to struggle to walk let alone talk. This horror was compounded when he found out that not only was his old foe the Master back on the scene but that some really annoying Australian air stewardess with a voice that could peel paint had inexplicable turned up in his ship. Worse, he couldn't seen to get rid of her. Add to that, some bloke with a bad skin condition and a fetish for white had also lumbered him with the nice but dull Nyssa of Traken and it's no surprise that the Fourth Doctor thought - 'enough is enough.' The last lesson that the Fourth Doctor taught us is that when it stops being fun, stop doing it. He promptly had the good grace to fall off a giant telescope and regenerate. Let that young blond one deal with the mouthy Australian and the maths nerd.
