Doctor Who: 10 Worst "New-Who" Episodes Ever

7. Love & Monsters

Doctor Who The Power of Three
BBC Studios

During the Tenth Doctor era of the show it was standard practice to feature a “Doctor-Lite” episode each season. These episodes tend to only feature The Doctor in a noticeably light capacity. Sometimes this works out very well, as with season 3’s episode Blink which introduces the Weeping Angels. Other times, like season 2’s Love & Monsters, not so much.

This episode revolves around a group of lonely individuals in London who form a club named L.I.N.D.A. that is designed to focus on hunting down The Doctor. In effect it becomes more of a mutual support network until a strange man named Victor Kennedy (Peter Kay) shows up and takes control of the group, reorganising them to focus on hunting The Doctor once more.

Whilst it is commendable for the show to attempt something different, Love & Monsters isn’t particularly funny or entertaining. The main character isn’t as sympathetic as the script wants you to think he is and the episode has a very questionable sense of humour, including that infamous BJ joke near the end. You know the one, don’t make me repeat it…
