Doctor Who: 10 Worst "New-Who" Episodes Ever

6. Fear Her

Doctor Who The Power of Three
BBC Studios

Fear Her sees the Doctor and Rose land in, what was at the time the near future, the year 2012, just as London is ramping up to the London Olympics. In a suburban street, children, adults, even pets are going missing, vanishing out of thin air without a trace. Everything centres around a young, lonely girl who is drawing pictures of all the vanished people.

Working with child actors is always risky. Sometimes, it pays off, like in The Sixth Sense or Pet Sematary. After all, kids can be creepy. Unfortunately it doesn’t work well here with young Abisola Agbaje in the unfortunate position of having to be both the main antagonist of the episode and a sympathetic victim. This is a big ask for experienced adult actors so it is no surprise that she can’t quite pull it off.

The episode attempts a “feel good” ending by tying in to the London Olympics, having The Doctor carry the Olympic torch and light the flame. It was a hokey moment back in 2006 but it seems outright silly here in 2021. Fear Her is an unfortunate episode to lead in to the two part finale and isn’t really worth rewatching.
