Doctor Who: 11 New Who Moments That Never Made It To Screen
11. The Death Of Sara Kingdom An Adventure In Space And Time
One of the most memorable aspects of Mark Gatisss 50th Anniversary docudrama An Adventure In Space And Time is how many scenes from the William Hartnell era it replicates. As well as the many dialogue scenes set in the Tardis that we see played out, the special also features rebuilt sets of; a corridor in the Dalek city, a room from Marco Polo, the surface of Vortis (The Web Planet), the scenes in Antarctica from The Tenth Planet, and location filming to recreate the iconic Daleks on Westminster Bridge scene from The Dalek Invasion Of Earth. But as much as Gatiss and his crew were able to accomplish, his complete vision couldnt be realised. A scene that had to be cut for budgetary reasons was a recreation of the ending to the twelve part epic The Daleks Master Plan. A scene in which companion Sara Kingdom is aged to dust by the Daleks Time Destructor. The most interesting part of this scene that never was is that Jean Marsh (who originally played Sara) had agreed to play the aged version of her character in this scene. But because of budget considerations, this scene was cut and Jean Marshs cameo was reduced to a background appearance at Verity Lamberts leaving party. Another few moments from the special that ended up not making it out of the edit suite were a scene of promotional shots for The Three Doctors filmed in Super-8 with Gatiss as the Third Doctor, and a just-for-fun Regeneration from Reece Shearsmiths Patrick Troughton to Mark Gatiss Jon Pertwee. Its not a perfect substitute for the only Regeneration that didn't happen but itll do.
