Doctor Who: 11 Nostalgic Theme Tunes Of The New Generation

5. Infinite Potential

http://youtu.be/UJqnGpkaqrM With every triumph, there comes a sacrifice. Happiness is always dampened by this discouraging reality. And so, a bittersweet note resounds in the air as the Doctor wins the battle at Trenzalore. This Time Lord, who has lived for almost two thousand years, looks wistfully upon his past, accepting the inevitable - that as times change, so must he. The song's undulating mood emphasises the hopeful outlook that the Doctor exudes despite the tears that percolate in his eyes. Almost every listener reliving Eleven€™s regeneration will be flooded with this same set of clashing emotions. In a sense, though, Infinite Potential, is almost too optimistic, as if it€™s knowingly consoling those who feel the emptiness and loss of the Eleventh Doctor leaving our screens. So it seems that, in these situations, there are only the extremes of joy and moroseness, and music is - without a doubt - capable of making us exhibit both simultaneously. And perhaps, just this once, fans can feel at peace with Eleven€™s untimely departure, without that regret snagging our expectations for the next Doctor in line. After all, he is the Doctor who forgives and forgets. Dwelling on the past never suited his ever-changing perception of "coolness". Yet, as the music lulls to a quiet murmur, everybody knows that it€™s time to say goodnight to their whimsical, raggedy Doctor. It all just disappears, doesn't it? Everything you are, gone in a moment. Like breath on a mirror.

Anna is an aspiring writer who has an incurable obsession with Doctor Who. When she is not writing about Doctor Who, she's watching favorite episodes and contemplating what to write next. When she's writing about Doctor Who, she anticipates her reward: watching yet another Doctor Who episode. She also manages to read science fiction (especially Ray Bradbury), recite lines from Shakespeare's Macbeth, and make terrible puns in her free time (she likes to imagine she has great puntential, though)
