4. All The Strange, Strange Creatures
http://youtu.be/oEcij0ARkmU This abrasive, vicious and purely orchestral song pounces upon every action sequence of Series 3. Like many diabolical monsters the Doctor confronts, this music has cacophonous overtones that wreak havoc with every boom and clash of the drums. At first, the strings' dissonant chords seep of foreboding mystery, painting images of luminous eyes in the dark who wait patiently with claws (or any variation thereupon), ready to strike. Suddenly a lively rhythm stomps across the tempo, forcing its way through by gnashing and tearing apart any diffident notes. It's an ordinary day for the Doctor. He knows the game is on. If anything, this theme awakens memories of the Tenth Doctor dashing through space ships shouting "Allons-y!" as he's caught in the adrenaline rush that follows impending danger. With Judoon, Daleks, Weeping Angels and the Master flocking to exterminate the Doctor and his meddling ways, sometimes even the Doctor can only run. And much to his companions' dismay, there's always lots of running. All the Strange, Strange Creatures emphasises this exhausting reality, more than ever. Underneath its overwhelming ruckus, however, the melody of All the Strange, Strange Creatures is very basic and can be frustratingly repetitive. Then again, villains were always predictable...
