Doctor Who: 11 Worst Adventures Ever Made

5. Seventh Doctor - Paradise Towers (1987)

Please, please, please don't make me review this episode. Please don't - it's so terrible... Okay, fine! Here goes.... the first season of Sylvester McCoy's run as the Seventh Doctor wasn't a very good start. By the second season things had improved, and by the third it was fantastic! Then sadly the show was cancelled, and remained dormant for quite some time. But yeah, his first season... I'm not sure there were any good serials, but this one stands out as the worst. The story goes as follows: his companion Mel wants to go to a swimming pool, and for some reason they're having a hard time finding one. Eventually they land inside a giant luxury hotel from the 22nd century. Soon though, they find it's fallen into a state of disrepair and has been overrun by gangs fighting for dominance. There are still many guests there, but they keep to themselves, locked away in the safety of their rooms. This story holds the distinction of being one of the only ones that was so stupid the producer John Nathan-Turner was unhappy with it. It's not that the story itself is bad (actually, from the synopsis it sounds kinda cool), but the cast of supporting characters is so mind-bogglingly bizarre it hurts my head. From the Red Kangs ("Red Kangs! Red Kangs! Red Kangs are best!!") to the Caretakers, the Robotic Cleaners, and worst of all, the aptly named Pex, self-proclaimed superhero. If You'd Like a Good Sylvester McCoy Story: Try The Happiness Patrol, a seriously underrated story. Or for more conventional episodes, either Remembrance of the Daleks or Ghost Light. Actually, anything from his last two seasons are good.
