Doctor Who: 12 Big Questions About Ashildr's Episodes

4. Is This The Last We Will See Of Sam Swift?

In The Woman Who Lived, Rufus Hound played the dashing lothario and highwayman Sam Swift, a rival of Ashildr / Me's 'The Nightmare'. Sentenced to be hung for his crimes, Ashildr used this as an excuse to use the amulet on him, killing him and opening the portal to another galaxy. Quickly realising her mistake she used the second Mire tablet to resurrect him, closing the portal and making him immortal in the process. Despite the Doctor's argument that the energies used to close the portal might not have made him like Ashildr , it is more likely that a second immortal hybrid is now running around 16th Century England. Sam certainly wasn't an innocent like Ashildr when he was killed and resurrected; what will this turn him into if he continues to survive centuries later. And is this the last audiences ill have seen of him? If Ashildr is back in the series nine finale, will we see five hundred-year old Sam Swift too?
