Doctor Who: 12 Great Big Finish Stories You Have To Listen To

7. Home Truths

Big Finish came up with this way of giving fans stories with Doctors who had passed away. Entitled The Companions Chronicles, these tales were more akin to audiobooks in nature, with a former companion narrating a story with another actor guesting for some dialogue scenes. Old faces such as William Russell (Ian), Carole Anne Ford (Susan), Frazer Hines (Jamie), Katy Manning (Jo Grant) and many others have voiced these tales. Some, such as Hines, Russell and Peter Purves (Steven) give very passable impressions of their respective Doctors.

As this range has expanded, so has the experimental nature of some of the stories. Perhaps the most ambitious have been writer Simon Guerrier's stories that feature one story companion Sara Kingdom. Played by Jean Marsh, Sara lost her life fighting the Daleks in 12 part TV tale The Daleks' Masterplan back with William Hartnell. Guerrier recreates Sara as a sentient AI in a house that the time travellers visit. Sara accidentally gives this creation a copy of her personality in opening tale Home Truths. For those who like their Doctor Who thoughtful and idea driven, these fit the bill.
