Doctor Who: 12 Great Big Finish Stories You Have To Listen To

5. Lucie Miller/To The Death

With the return of the TV show in 2005 and its shorter, pacier episodes, the Eighth Doctor tales were revamped and given their own range. Over four series, McGann was joined by the brilliant Sheridan Smith as Blackpool mouth-on-legs Lucie Miller, creating one of the best Doctor/companion pairings in any medium. Inspired by NuWho, these series are bold, exciting, funny and emotional.

Over four years the Doctor and Lucie faced Zygons, Cybermen, the Meddling Monk, the Giant Spiders and, of course, the Daleks. These adventures come to a head in a two part finale that saw the Doctor, Lucie, new companion Tamsin, granddaughter Susan and great-grandson Alex face the wrath of the Daleks. Not everyone makes it out alive and the fallout would have massive implications for the direction the Eighth Doctor adventures take.

In The Night of the Doctor, Steven Moffat showed his public appreciation for what Big Finish has done by having McGann name check his audio companions, effectively making the Eighth Doctor tales canon at least. Of course, now fans can argue as to why he doesn't mention Liv Chenka, his latest big Finish friend!
