2. "We Should Do This Every Christmas"

A heartwarming scene which deserves a special mention on this list for harking back to the Eleventh Doctor's final moments in The Time of the Doctor last Christmas (Last Christmas!? But that was the title of this episode. Everything's coming up Doctor!) After cracking the case of the mysterious Dream Crabs there was a last minute surprise in store for the Doctor who woke up and returned to save Clara to discover he'd actually been gone 60 years and she was now an old woman who had spent her life travelling Europe and learning to fly planes, strangely enough. As the Time Lord helped a frail Clara pull a cracker it was reminiscent of Matt Smith's swansong in which the impossible girl helped her dying hero partake in the festive tradition. Suffice to say, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Thankfully it was all just another dream, though, but it was a nice one while it lasted.
