Doctor Who: 12 Things You Need To Know About Series 9

12. Filming Is Officially Underway

New year, new series! Filming for Series 9 of Doctor Who officially commenced on Monday 5th January 2015 which meant that it was business as usual for Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman after their well-deserved Christmas break. The festive period had been much more dramatic for their on screen alter egos, of course, as the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald faced their Last Christmas at the hands of the terrifying Dream Crabs. Luckily for them (and us!), they both lived to fight another day, although things did look very dire indeed for our impossible girl at one point. She wasn't ready to call it a day just yet and at the end of the episode they were both seen returning to the TARDIS for adventures anew which means it's only just beginning. Unfortunately, the wait is only just beginning, too! They'll be back on our screens in the autumn (more on that on the next page) so for the time being fans are forced to wait as they twiddle their thumbs and find reassurance in the knowledge that, somewhere out there, there is brand new Doctor Who being filmed whilst the rest of us are going about our mediocre day to day lives. Whatever gets us through the day, right? What's more, this time round they're been particularly secretive about what's going down in Cardiff town. The majority - if not all - of the action thus far has been confined within the privacy of the show's studios at Roath Lock so there hasn't been so much as one official behind the scenes photo or on set sneak peek to herald the start of filming, excluding the above picture of Peter and Capaldi's chairs. It'll all be worth it in the long run, of course, because the fact nothing has being revealed only makes the concept of watching it for the first time even more exciting, which in turn makes the concept of having to wait even more excruciating. And fans have got an awful lot of waiting on their hands...
