3. Comedians Have Played The Role Successfully Before
Jon Pertwee and Sylvester McCoy were both sneered at in the beginning. "What, that alcoholic Chief Petty Officer from the Navy Lark? He'll never be a good Doctor!" "What, that stuntman that put ferrets in his pants? Never!" And yet... The main issue people seem to have with Eddie Izzard is that he's more a comedian than an actor, and this just isn't true. And even if it were, he still may turn in a solid performance like that of his comedic predecessors. I still find it hard to believe that the Third Doctor and CPO Pertwee are played by the same man. Why should this not be true for Mr. Cake-Or-Death?
