4. Robson Green

Not as recognizable outside the UK, Robson Green is well-known in Britain for his starring roles in Touching Evil (co-written by Russell T. Davies, incidentally) and Wire in the Blood. A compact, intense actor, given to playing cerebral eccentrics with a special connection to the dark side of human nature, Green has received much acclaim for his performances, and is, by all accounts, a committed artist who takes his acting very seriously. Perhaps a little too seriously
WHY HIM: Supposedly, Green turned down the role of The Master in the current Doctor Whos third season, snarling, I dont do panto. So its highly unlikely hed ever take the role, even if it were offered. But if Green would just get over himself for a moment and if Who fans can get over their fury at him for the comment as the Doctor, he could bring a lot to the console. In addition to his introspective intensity, Green can also be effortlessly funny, allowing an understated humor to emerge organically from his characters quirks. Projecting a bookish authority, despite his relatively small stature, he can deliver reams of forensic data and psychobabble (and, therefore, presumably technobabble, as well) with professorial confidence and a contagious enthusiasm. The only complication I foresee is that, at times, he is so strongly reminiscent of Sylvester McCoys Seventh Doctor, his performance could come dangerously close to seeming imitative But thats really a problem for him and the production team
SEE HIM IN: His best and most Doctor-reminiscent work is in Wire in the Blood.
