12. Director Colin Teague Didn't Actually Direct Everything

Colin Teague is the credited director for both parts of the finale (The Sound Of Drums/Last Of The Time Lords), but interestingly, he was absent for quite a significant portion of filming due to an unfortunate accident.

During the opening beach scene, Agyeman mentions that Teague didn't direct the whole episode due to being hospitalised midway through the shoot.

Apparently, Teague fell down some stairs (earning himself the nickname "Tumbling Teague"), resulting in long-time Doctor Who director Graeme Harper being brought in to finish the job. Harper had already directed Utopia - the episode that led straight into The Sound Of Drums - so he was probably the best replacement they could've got, and according to Agyeman, he was behind the camera for Martha's interior scenes with Professor Docherty.

Harper's work on the show dates all the way back to the classic series, where he directed stories like The Caves Of Androzani and Revelation Of The Daleks. In the modern series, he helmed Army Of Ghosts, Doomsday, Turn Left, and many others.

As for Teague, he went on to direct The Fires Of Pompeii in Series 4, and also worked on Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures too. Presumably, he was a lot more careful around staircases when making those other shows.
