Doctor Who: 13 Cool Details Steven Moffat Just Revealed About The Girl In The Fireplace

1. Moffat Wrote A New Scene To Continue Reinette's Story

If you want to watch the scene spoiler-free, do so now!

Alternatively, read on for a brief summary...

One of the best things about these lockdown watch-alongs is that we're also getting some new Doctor Who content to coincide with them.

There was an extra scene featuring Dan Starkey's Strax that was written for the Day of the Doctor watch-along, for example, while Neil Gaiman also wrote a scene to introduce The Doctor's Wife - in which Arthur Darvill returned to play Rory.

But quite possibly the best of the lot is the new scene we just got, which is a sequel to The Girl in the Fireplace.

Penned by Moffat and featuring the voice of Sophia Myles (who played Reinette in the main episode), this new scene - simply titled "Pompadour" - reveals that a version of Reinette's consciousness has survived inside the cold machinery of the SS Madame de Pompadour.

It's a chilling yet beautiful scene, a remarkable achievement considering that it was produced in lockdown. Three years after leaving the show, Steven Moffat is still breaking our hearts. Curse that man.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
