Another fact about the real-life Madame de Pompadour is that her mother was called Madeleine de la Motte, and according to Davies, this means that there's a connection between her, and the Doctor's Series 4 companion, Donna Noble.

Donna's granddad is, of course, the lovable Wilfred Mott, who appeared in quite a few episodes towards the end of Tennant's run.

And his last name, "Mott"? That means he's a distant ancestor of Madeleine de la Motte, and thus - as tweeted out by Davies - Wilfred and Donna are ever-so-slightly related to Madame de Pompadour.

Sure, he's joking around a little, but this is too good to not be considered canon. Davies has spoken!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
