Doctor Who: 14 Actors Who Will NEVER Be The 14th Doctor

Matt Berry is clearly a Doctor Who fan. He recorded and released his own excellent version of the theme tune. Peter Davison and Louise Jameson have both appeared in Toast of London, whilst a man dressed as the Fourth Doctor can always be found in Toast's club having a pint. Tom Baker's Soho years and voice acting experience are also clearly one of the many influences on Steven Toast. But could you really see Matt Berry as the Doctor?

He's certainly got the look, the comedy chops and the voice for it, but is he really the sort of well-rounded actor that modern Doctor Who requires? Almost certainly not, so whilst it's fun to imagine him behind the controls of the TARDIS and facing off against the Daleks, it would likely be a short-lived, one-note performance.

Apparently, the writer Peter Harness once pitched a Doctor Who story that would see the return of '60s Timelord villain The Meddling Monk. He wanted Matt Berry to follow in the footsteps of Carry On star Peter Butterworth in the role. Now that I'd like to see!
