Doctor Who: 14 Actors Who Will NEVER Be The 14th Doctor

7. Michael Sheen

It feels like Michael Sheen has been regularly rumoured to be the next Doctor since as far back as Christopher Eccleston's surprise departure back in 2005. It was even a running joke in Staged, the Zoom-recorded sitcom in which he stars alongside Tenth Doctor David Tennant.

Back in 2005, Sheen would have been a phenomenal choice as the Tenth Doctor and continued to be a great suggestion when he was rumoured to be the Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth.

Here in 2022 however, his casting would feel more like the kind of retrograde casting decision to appease those who hate the idea of a female Doctor. Which isn't fair on Sheen as an actor or to the show itself.

Thankfully, Russell T Davies isn't interested in the sort of hollow appeasement favoured by the Star Wars and Ghostbusters franchises, so we've got nothing to worry about.
