Doctor Who: 14 Cool Details In Steven Moffat & David Tennant's Silence In The Library Commentary

1. It Was Moffat's Idea To Put The "Next Time" Trailer AFTER The Credits

It's a NuWho tradition for every single episode to carry a "Next Time" trailer somewhere near the end, and while there are exceptions (The Pandorica Opens ends with a simple "To Be Continued" graphic, for example), it's pretty much a rule at this point.

Silence In The Library is no different, with a short tease of the next episode (Forest Of The Dead) popping up at the end of the credits, and right at the end of the commentary, Moffat says that this was actually his idea.

After watching Series 1's Aliens Of London and being annoyed at the fact that the next time trailer was played before the credits (a decision that received a lot of criticism from fans at the time), Moffat apparently suggested that next time trailers that bridge two-part stories should be played after the credits instead.

This trend - which began with Moffat's own two-part story The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances in Series 1 - is so people can escape their televisions before seeing any spoilers for the next episode. Thanks Moff.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
