Doctor Who: 14 Most Paused Moments Of The Last Decade
6. The End Of The Universe (The Pandorica Opens)
Well, this one pretty much speaks for itself. The Doctor's mortal enemies had joined forces to lock him in an eternal prison, River Song was trapped inside an exploding TARDIS, Rory Williams had returned from the dead as a Roman Auton who proceeded to shoot Amy Pond in the stomach and, just for the sheer and utter hell of it, the entire universe was about to disappear out of existence. Blimey. Does anybody else need to sit down after that?! Suffice to say, the final moments of Series 5's penultimate episode, The Pandorica Opens, were as climactic as they come. Fans didn't have just one, but four separate story arcs to contend with, and each of them was just as heart racing as the last. In fact, it's now 5 years later and you're still probably trying to make sense of it all. It was basically Steven Moffat's way of saying, "This is what a cliffhanger into a series finale should be like - in your face, botched regeneration!", and for that the Doctor Who fandom both love and loathe him in equal measure. Probably leaning towards 'loathe' more in this instance, because that really was one of the longest weeks of our lives. Seriously, though. How the hell did they get themselves out of that one?! Never mind a 'pause' button, the almighty reset button proved to be particularly useful in this instance.
